This is the website for Starbase, a Java application that is being developed by Laurence Newell. Starbase is not Open Source, although the intention is to make the software free use for Radio Astronomers world wide.
The software and associated plug and play observatory is a BAA Radio Astronomy Group initiative.Further details are available at the BAA RAG Website
Starbase is an integral item within the BAA Radio Astronomy Group Plug and Play Observatory and is far more than a simple logging application.
Starbase software will interface with the controller of a number of instruments, for example a VLF receiver, a Solar receiver or a Hydrogen Line receiver. Each controller is intended to run autonomously as a local data collection unit. The vision is that a Starbase user will be able to connect to any Starbase instrument (local or remote) and extract data or (with suitable permissions), actually control (tune, direct etc) the instrument itself.
Starbase Network Connectivity
All Starbase systems can be configured to log data locally and in addition, log recorded data in a centralised repository. Here, the data will be sanitized and then made available for other astronomers to use.
Starbase also runs a series of Framework Services to provide a fully integrated observatory environment.
There are four 'standard' instruments currently being developed.
Starbase application is currently in Alpha testing and has limited functionality. It is available for download and evaluation by contacting {martyn at czd dot org dot uk}.
